Why an Authorized Demag Dealer Should Be Your First Decision, Not the Crane Model

The dealer determines how fast you get parts, whether the warranty is actually usable, and whether your maintenance crew spends a weekend working overtime.   3. Pass a written and practical evaluation. A qualified trainer signs off after confirming the operator can operate safely in your workplace.

This is one of those compliance items that sounds silly until it's the difference between starting a project on Tuesday and waiting until Friday. Do it before you need it.

Why the dealer's parts counter isn't just a markup machine

  • For obsolete cranes that the original manufacturer no longer supports, a specialized third-party shop with knowledge of older Demag equipment can be your only realistic option.
  • For cosmetic parts that don't affect safety—like guard covers, nameplates, or non-structural sheet metal—you can sometimes use a trusted non-OEM source and save money.
  • For emergency repairs on a machine the dealer doesn't have in its schedule, a local machine shop might be able to fabricate a temporary fix. But I'd only do that after talking to someone who actually understands the crane's load path.

And one more thing: the dealer label matters, but so does the specific technician. I once worked with a dealer who had great parts availability but sent a new technician who misdiagnosed a crane fault. The dealer fixed it in the end, but we lost another day because I didn't ask about the technician's experience before the visit. Now I ask for the technician's name, background, and references before approving the service.

Honestly, I don't have a perfect system. I have a boring one: buy from the authorized Demag dealer, budget for the access and training costs, and verify people before they work on critical equipment. That has saved me more money than any online deal did.
