No, that's a myth. But you have to be the right kind of small customer.

When I was starting out, I thought a company like Demag wouldn't care about a $500 order for a spare motor brake. I was wrong. The vendors who treated my $200 orders seriously back then are the ones I still use for $20,000 orders. Small doesn't mean unimportant—it means potential.

That said, a small order (a single hoist limit switch, for example) might get a slower response from a distributor who's juggling a $50,000 OEM order. My advice:

6. What's the #1 thing people get wrong about maintaining a Demag crane?

They assume 'it's fine' because it's a Demag.

Skipped the monthly inspection checklist for a Demag KBK monorail system because 'it never has issues.' That was the one time it mattered. A cracked weld on a suspension bracket got missed. The whole section dropped—fortunately not while anyone was under it. The repair cost us $3,200 and a week of downtime.

Demag makes great equipment. But great equipment needs great maintenance. The most common mistake isn't a specific part failure—it's the assumption that quality equals invincibility. It doesn't.

7. Are Demag's original electric motors (like the DR series) worth repairing, or should I just replace them?
